Raeesah Islam shares her JOURNEY of ten years as a local creative at Utopia Feni

For the last ten years, Raeesah Islam has dedicated herself to building the creative community in Virginia Beach through her nonprofit, Utopia Feni. From open mics to public art projects, murals and activations with entities like Something in the Water, Raeesah has cultivated a diverse artist co-op that calls local talent onto the stage.

About the speaker

Raeesah Islam is the founder and director of Utopia Feni, a nonprofit to support artists of every kind. Because of this platform, Raeesah was able to work with museums, connect with artists on a personal level, and help create movements like #VAweloveyou, Where the Heart Is, Pulse, and more. Through finding her voice in Utopia Feni, she also took on roles on the Virginia Beach Arts & Humanities commission, teaching courses at Governor's School for the Arts & YellowHAB, planning a stage at Something in the Water, curating First Fridays @ Vibe Park in the Vibe District, and collaborating on new projects with The Chrysler Museum of Art. Now Utopia Feni is in its 10th year and her vision is just reaching the surface.
