About the speaker

Alignment to Impression

Sarah Koff (she/her) is an Exeter-based printmaker and environmentalist exploring place through woodcut. A former environmental educator, she is intrigued by the connection between humans and the natural world. Sarah's goal is to inspire people to feel responsible for protecting their environment. She strives to do it through telling stories with each print, lowering her environmental impact, and sending a percentage of sales to conservation/community organizations.

"My career for ten years was in environmental education and conservation; my goal was to help people connect with nature in their own way.

Meanwhile, I discovered block printing. I had always been a maker but the physicality/rhythmic repetition in block printing captivated me in a way no other craft had. After entering motherhood, jobless and in need of community, I applied to a market to sell cards. This evolved into an unexpected journey of becoming a serious printmaker.

A few years later, I couldn’t shake the feeling that I was neglecting my original career goals. It was frustrating until—after launching a fundraiser for Australian wildlife relief—I redefined to myself what a printmaker could be. I realized I could use my platform as a changemaking tool."
