Selynne Ancheta explores her career leading up to her role at the Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art and the lessons she’s learned about escaping the patterns of behavior that hold us back.
About the speaker
Selynne graduated from the College of Charleston with a Bachelor’s degree in Arts Management in 2019 and furthered her education by earning a Graduate Certificate in Arts and Cultural Management in 2023. Her interest in development was sparked during CofC’s Dr. Karen Chandler’s fundraising class, which led to a series of internships across Charleston's vibrant arts community, including Engaging Creative Minds and the North Charleston Cultural Arts Department. These experiences equipped her with the skills needed for her first professional role in fundraising at the South Carolina Historical Society in 2019. Facing a decision between remaining in her current role and pursuing new opportunities, Selynne took a chance and applied for the open Development Coordinator position at the Halsey Institute on the final day of the job opening. She began her journey as the Development Coordinator in 2021 and was promoted to Director of Development the following year. Selynne's upbringing as a military child, moving multiple times throughout her life, instilled in her a resilience and adaptability that have served her well. Currently residing on James Island with her partner and their 9-year-old basset hound lab, she continues to embrace new challenges and opportunities that welcome themselves.
