About the speaker
Shawn Blumberg is a lead scientist at Southwest Research Institute (SwRI), a non-profit research organization based here in San Antonio. The institute's founding mission of using science and technology to benefit all humankind has served as a north star in pharmaceutical development, an area where the technical, financial, and political interests can easily overshadow our prime motivation: creating therapies and treatments for people who need them.
Shawn has 10 years of experience in non-profit drug development and oversees both the production of new therapeutics at all scales, and creation of new enabling chemical technologies for the discovery of tomorrow's cures. Shawn holds a Ph. D. in chemistry from the University of Texas at Austin, where he studied how to recreate the molecules of nature to use as future pharmaceuticals under the supervision of Dr. Stephen F. Martin.
