About the speaker
Sophia Calderón is a Costa Rican-American Photographer & Storyteller born and raised beneath the cicada-covered trees of Meridian, Mississippi.
Calderon uses natural light, unique styling, & intentional color palettes to tell soulful stories that honor identity, humanity, and the beauty found in both people and places. Her highest artistic aspiration is for her photos to become an offering and opportunity to celebrate the stories woven within the fabrics of our lives.
Her work has been exhibited throughout the South, as well as in Colorado, and has additionally been featured in PhotoVogue & The Wall Street Journal. Sophia was named “Photographer of the Year” in 2021 at Mississippi State University, where she completed her undergraduate studies in Communications & Public Relations.
Sophia is a member of Women Photograph, Diversify Photo, & the Luupe. She currently based in both Tennessee and Mississippi & is available for assignments and travel opportunities.

This month we’ll be gathering at the Walker Theatre, a historic venue close to the heart of downtown. You’ll find ample parking on the streets nearby, as well as in paid lots—just steer clear of any areas reserved for UTC students and staff.
