About the speaker

Sophie McTear (they/he/she), a nonbinary and disabled illustrator, graphic designer, and most recently tattoo artist, has been living and creating in Tucson, Arizona since 2017. Self taught in Washington, D.C.’s punk music scene, Sophie began their art career over ten years ago by creating posters and merchandise for indie musicians and acclaimed bands touring through the nation’s capital. McTear possesses a bold and vibrant style, driven by a commitment to bringing fresh perspectives to their work, no matter the medium. Their art has been featured in the window displays of nationwide retailers like Hot Topic, on covers for Scholastic Books, on wall murals, records, inked permanently into skin, and so much more. With a passion for inclusive artistry, Sophie strives to amplify underrepresented voices and challenge societal norms, believing in the transformative power of art to create a more diverse and compassionate world.
