About the speaker

Stanley Carvalho is a retired Reuters journalist with over three decades of experience in reporting, writing and editing. Born and educated in Bengaluru, he proudly calls himself a "true-blue Bangalorean," drawing from childhood memories of traffic-free roads and birdsong in neighborhoods like Richards Town.

Prior to Reuters, Carvalho worked for two newspapers covering business and finance. He began his career as a freelance writer alongside a full-time job in corporate journalism. His articles appear in Deccan Herald, The Hindu, The Federal, LiveMint, Gulf News, and others, often exploring Bengaluru's heritage, sports, and social issues.

A prolific writer, he authored Past and Curious (2016) on Bengaluru's evolution and edited Bangalore Blue (2013), an anthology of city stories, plus Playback: Sports Legends of Bangalore (2019). He teaches journalism at Alliance University and freelances, blending nostalgia with critique of urban decay.

Despite global travels—from Malta to Britain—Bengaluru remains home, fueling his vigilant commentary on preserving its green legacy amid unsustainable growth.
