About the speaker

Stefano Romano, (Naples, 1975) artist, curator and researcher.
At the core of his artistic practice is the need to express the contradictions of reality. The artist has always considered the work as an “event”, as a spatio-temporal process that produces what he considers to be conversations with himself, with the reality in which we move and with the other - often understood as the one who makes the work possible through his or her own participation in the aesthetic process.
A certain idea of failure or suspension given by the uncertainty of the present characterizes all his artworks.
The research is expressed through temporary actions, performances, installations, video works, photographs and drawings.
In 2023 he obtained a PhD in architecture from the University of Ferrara and Polis University in a double degree International Program.
He has been working for more than twenty years in Albania where he conceived several projects as an artist and as a curator. Among his various projects, it is worth mentioning 1.60insurgent space whose focus was public space; he was also co-founder of T.I.C.A. (Tirana Institute of Contemporary Art). In 2012, he co-founded the collective DZT (DyZeroTre) and the platform MAPS - Mobile Archive on Public Space. His latest project is The Mobile School of Visual Arts, a pedagogical project based on the idea of art as knowledge production and active participation.
His work has been exhibited in national and international exhibitions.
