About the speaker
Harlan Ruby is woman-owned and operated balloon, gift, party, stationery shoppe in East Nashville, Tennessee run by mother-daughter duo Sunny Becks & Fiona Flaherty. The shoppe is "all color, all the time" with approximately 50% of the products being produced in-house with a neighboring workshop for classes and parties.
Sunny spent most of her entrepreneurial years running a successful hula hoop business (classes and ultimately the world’s first hoop supply company), and once her oldest daughter, Fiona, wrapped up her design schooling at The New School in NYC (plus a small stint in LA) Sunny suggested Fiona launch her own brand back in her hometown of Nashville, Tennessee.
Transforming the hoop shop into a retail location, they quickly put Fiona’s fashion illustration degree to use and self-produced a whimsical line of hand-illustrated, hand-lettered goods under the name Cheers Fifi. Today they continue their collaboration on other brands such as Idol Light and Nevertheless She Persisted, while also producing small-batch runs for local artists.
