Tina Heath-Schuttenberg, owner of Kwei Fei and Beautiful South, gets hot and heavy about the journey that brought her to call Charleston home.
About the speaker
The AZ native followed her passion for design and fashion to art school in Denver and soon after made a cross-country trek to live in NYC and work in high fashion, holding a position at Zac
Posen. During the economic recession of 2008, Tina left fashion to stay at home with her daughter full-time. Seeking to reinvent herself within her creative abilities, she pivoted to food and beverage by helping friends open trend-setting Brooklyn-based micro-grocery The General Greene. She then transitioned to the Plaza Hotel to oversee the launch of its retail flagship The Plaza Food Hall, finally landing at the renowned Dean & Deluca where she ended up holding a dual role as Merchandising and Creative Director. Having done her time in NY the Schuttenberg family moved to Charleston in 2015, where she soon joined the Butcher & Bee family later moving over to Caviar & Bananas as Director of Merchandising. While working at Caviar & Bananas Tina and her husband, David created a scrappy punk rock playing pop-up named Kwei Fei. In 2019 they were invited by Alex & Vanessa Harris to move into their current home attached to the Charleston Pour House. The team opened Micho in 2020, and She opened Portal, a preloved designer and vintage clothing store in 2021. In Summer of 2023 David and Tina opened their newest concept, Beautiful South and created Always Awkward Hospitality. She’s currently juggling life as a Mom, Wife and a Restaurateur with big plans for the future.
