About the speaker

As a communication specialist by trade and a connector by nature, Varian has extensive experience with community engagement through social media, event planning, and creative placemaking initiatives.

Since moving to Charlotte in 2013, her work with Charlotte Center City Partners, 8 80 Cities, and the Knight Foundation has developed into a passion for understanding how placemaking strategies can spark public life and strengthen communities.

As of 2017, she has been leading the activation of Camp North End, an ambitious adaptive reuse project on a 76-acre historic site located one mile from uptown Charlotte.

Varian is originally from the DC area and graduated from Wake Forest University with degrees in Communication and Religion. On days off she can be found starting the dance party at weddings, tending to her house plants, and adventuring through national parks with her husband and sons.
