Victoria Herrmann

Victoria Herrmann is the President & Managing Director of The Arctic Institute, where she leads the Institute's research on climate change and community adaptation in Arctic communities, and a Gates Scholar at Cambridge University's Scott Polar Research Institute. Together with the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) Victoria also co-convenes an international working group on cultural heritage and climate relocation as part of the Pocantico Call to Action.

Over the past year and a half, Victoria has been traveling from Alaska to American Samoa as a National Geographic Explorer to refocus our country's climate change story on the people who are living on the front lines of America's eroding edges. Together with her research partner Eli Keene, they are creating a database of hundreds of interviews to better understand the effect sea level rise, erosion, and extreme storms are having on coastal communities, and to identify what can be done to support towns that are in need of adaptation and relocation today.
