The 5e Sonic Maker Space and the Mt. Elliott Makerspace each engage and empower youth through applied science, technology, engineering, math, and arts education.

Piper Carter is a world renown photographer and has worked with publications such as Vogue, Elle and New York Times. She is a Howard University Alumni and also attended FIT receiving a BFA in Photography & Digital Media. Carter is co-Owner of 5e Gallery, co-Founder of the Foundation Celebrating Women in Hip Hop, Multimedia Artist for Jessica Care Moore’s Black Women Rock, & Founding member of the Detroit Digital Justice Coalition.

Jeff Sturges loves making things, connecting people, and hosting potluck dinners. This passion drove him to start makerspaces as the Mt Elliott Makerspace and OmniCorpDetroit. His work on these communities is inspired by “antidisciplinary” experiences at the The Sustainable South Bronx GreenFab program, the NYCResistor hackerspace, Cranbrook Academy of Art and the MIT Media Lab. Jeff believes that through collaborative making, tinkering, and learning, We the People will create happier, healthier, and more meaningful lives.
