What is Genius?

By Shivani Mathur

The theme for August is Genius. What is genius? To most
traditionalists, it is the ability to simplify high order
differential equations or the talent of stringing together the
most esoteric words of the dictionary, effortlessly. To art
lovers, it’s the encapsulation of iconoclasm in the form of
sculptures and paintings, while sports fans see genius in
the craft with which Sachin Tendulkar plays cricket. I
personally see genius in the intricacy with which the
seamstresses at Chanel weave details on to coats. The
truth is that Genius is really all around us, it’s subjective,
yes, but really all of us are capable of relishing it.

Taking a moment to appreciate the brilliant science and
beauty behind the uniqueness of a snowflake is genius
itself. Yes, you read correctly. It’s not always an
occurrence that needs to be genius. Much like a
melancholic poem or perfectly balanced income statement
needs a special kind of person to find value in its beauty, it
takes a genius to well, recognize genius. We can all be
deemed geniuses in the realms we find passion or
prowess in, in the same way writers become Gods of the
vast universes they build in their stories.

Come tune into the August edition of Creative Mornings at
Barsha Heights Dubai to rediscover what sets you apart
as a genius and hear about what veteran communications
expert, Lorne Riley has to say on this piquant subject.
