“Everything old is new again” sums up the revivals that bubble up throughout culture. But are there really no original ideas left? Does it matter? Lots of things from the past are worth saving from obscurity. It’s up to you to distill the best of the past and create a better future.
Andrew Pounder is doing just that. As the current curator of the Global Shapers Freiburg Hub, Andrew is committed to reviving and redefining the Hub’s impact in the city. The Global Shapers Community is a network of young people with over 500 hubs in more than 150 countries working together to address local, regional, and global challenges.
Andrew is originally from Trinidad. He studied chemical engineering and worked in the cement and petrochemical industry before moving to Germany to pursue a master’s in sustainable systems engineering. His journey — from burnout to rediscovery, from career shifts to cultural adaptation — fuels his belief in the power of personal and collective revival.
Rather than claiming to have the answers, Andrew is focused on asking the right questions - about identity, belonging, and how to breathe life back into a team, a mission, or even oneself.
What does it means to breathe life into ourselves again — after burnout, after pause, after loss — and how do we recognize the seeds of vitality that are already within us?
