St. Louis’ very own De Nichols (@de_nichols) has developed an organization with 3 other black designers called Design as Protest.

DAP is a collaborative effort who’s mission is to hold the design industry accountable in using our collective power to reverse the harms that architecture and design fields have caused to black people and communities.

DAP has created 9 very specific demands calling for change in the design industry, an actions library with ideas, practices, and actions for how the design community should respond, and drafted letters and templates that you can send to your agencies, institutions, and government about these demands.

We’re excited to announce Chelsey Carter (St. Louis Fashion Designer featured on Project Runway) will be joining us on July 31st

Chelsey focuses on the abstract for inspiration for her designs. Her brand, Alex Carter which she launched in 2015, is unisex, catering to customers who are risk-taking and statement-making. Her goal is to exude sensuality in her clothing without having to bare it all.

She has been featured in Vogue Italia and many other magazines such as Verluxe, SunTimes, and Tribune. The Alex Carter brand is known for creating everyday clothes for not so everyday people.

You can read more about Chelsey and her full bio on our website (While you’re there, don’t forget to register to reserve your spot!)

“An underdog questions and expands what’s considered possible.”

Whether you’re an underdog yourself or you know someone who is, you can help raise the bar.

July’s theme is #CMunderdog presented by @Mailchimp. It was selected by @Edinburgh_CM and illustrated by @astrid.jaekel.illustration.

We are very excited about this month’s speaker, and we cannot wait to share it with you!

“Growing up I didn’t think I was insecure. Insecure to me was the girls that didn’t think they were pretty so they wore too much makeup or the boys that were always fronting and being too cool for school. I didn’t realize that I hid myself from others, that I pushed down my creativity because I was insecure. And I didn’t realize I was insecure because my very self, who I really was, was hidden from me.” - James Meinert on Insecure.

Join us Friday for a great talk with more insight from James! You can register now at https://creativemornings.com/talks/james-meinert
