Meet Jodie Fox. Jodie is the Director of Fashion and Founder of Shoes of Prey. Since its launch in 2009, customers have used Shoes of Prey to design tens of millions of custom shoes (literally!). From a background in advertising and law, Jodie now applies her communication savvy and sense of style to foster a world-class tech business that allows women to design their own perfect pair of shoes. Jodie spoke at September’s CM talk back in 2012. We checked in with her to see what she’s been up to since then - and not surprisingly, there’s been a lot going on!

Name: Jodie Fox

Nickname: J Fox

What have you been up to since you spoke at CM? Quite a bit! Probably the biggest piece of news is that we opened a store in at David Jones on Elizabeth Street in January 2013, and in November 2013 in Paris it was named the worlds best store design <1,200sqm for 2013, up against Karl Lagerfeld’s concept store in Paris and Puma for their flagship store in Osaka.

What did you want to be when you grew up? An actress, a diplomat or a global business woman. I feel like what I do covers all three.

What’s the single best piece of advice anyone has ever given you? They put rubbers on pencils for a reason. It makes me remember that I’m learning when I’m making mistakes. But it also makes me nostalgic as I realise it’s not going to be relevant for the generations to come.

Weekend ritual: Sleeping in, lots of relaxed meals and chatter with good friends, yoga, farmers markets, cooking, hanging out with my kitten, reading, sketching and binge watching Netflix TV series. I like to over plan.

The technology or tool you couldn’t live without: My iPhone

Where do you do your best thinking? Wherever I create the environment. Even when I was studying in high school, lighting a candle gave me that environment I needed to think.
