We may love the work we do for its ultimate outcome and product, however, it is quite another, more important, matter to love the work process itself, as that is where will shall spend the majority of our waking hours.

The Performance Of Time: Eco Justice & Art Ethics:

“I don’t know if it is possible for activist art to exist. I hope so, but I sometimes feel like just making art is inherently problematic, because usually it is only people of exceptional privilege that are able to make long term, sustainable careers out of being artists– especially activist artists. (
) But I also want to make clear that I’m not saying that activist art is bad in any way. I just think that sometimes it can fail in its intent, because the openness that allows for variety of experiences is not there.”

“The moral life of man forms part of the subject-matter of the artist, but the morality of art consists in the perfect use of an imperfect medium. No artist desires to prove anything. Even things that are true can be proved. No artist has ethical sympathies. An ethical sympathy in an artist is an unpardonable mannerism of style. No artist is ever morbid. The artist can express everything. Thought and language are to the artist instruments of an art. Vice and virtue are to the artist materials for an art.” - Oscar Wilde from the preface to The Picture of Dorian Gray (via theclassicsreader)
“Work inspires inspiration. Keep working. If you succeed, keep working. If you fail, keep working. If you are interested, keep working. If you are bored, keep working.” - Michael Crichton ( via Skinny Artist’s FB page )

Great representation by Amanda Fenton for Sam Bradd’s talk on Language at Creative Mornings.

Wanted: Like-minded, local companies to partner with #CMVan to host small, monthly “field trips” with 25-50 of our eager, creative community. Could be a demo, tour, workshop, anything as long as it is more creative/educational than sales/promotional. Email vancouver@creativemornings.com if you’re interested with subject “Field Trips”. (at Vancouver, British Columbia)
