I'm an author, conflict resolution specialist, mediator and result coach. I'm an anthropology professor at Rutgers University in Newark and a conflict resolution lecturer at Columbia University. At Rutgers University I founded The International Institute for Peace.

For the past 20-plus years, I have been involved in challenging conflict resolution work in troubled areas around the world, from Colombia to Mexico, from Haiti to the Western Balkans, from Syria to troubled urban areas in the United States. I've designed and facilitated numerous trainings and workshops for communities affected by violence and for organizations and businesses facing conflict or difficult transitions. Between 2007 and 2010, I was the director of the Center for International Conflict Resolution at Columbia University. In the 1990s, I served as a senior adviser to the anti-mafia mayor of Palermo, Leoluca Orlando.

Since 2001, I've been involved in conflict resolution in Colombia. From 2005 to 2007, I facilitated cease-fire talks between the Government of Colombia and armed insurgent groups. I have provided advice in conflict resolution and peace building to multi-lateral organizations, national and local governments, NGOs as well as communities and businesses. For the past several years I've been an informal adviser to the U.S. State Department on the Colombian peace process.

More recently, I've founded the company Accordo Consulting, which provides advice, facilitation, training and coaching in leadership, effective communication and conflict resolution to professionals and celebrities as well as to organizations in the private and public sector.

I love to help people who are experiencing conflict within themselves and with others, to transform their relations, connect with their purpose and make a meaningful contribution to the world. This is a skill that I have honed during my 25 years of international work in conflict resolution, dealing with individuals who have been part of terrorist groups, gangs, and so on... I now use the skills I have learned also to help leaders, entrepreneurs, artists and students to get the focus and the determination that it takes to get the desired results. According to the needs, I love to used a variety of tools, that range from NLP to hypnosis, from conflict management to strategic paecebuilding.

I am looking for venues where to share the stories and insights I have accumulated in 25 years of work in conflict resolution. I'm particularly interested in colleges, associations, and businesses.

I have a deep admiration for Nelson Mandela, because he embodied the power of transformation.

To connect with others and to ask questions that help others to get clarity of purpose.

How to connect with others in a powerful way.
