About the speaker

Bilphena Yahwon is a Baltimore based artist, archivist and restorative practices practitioner born in Liberia, West Africa. Her work is concerned with the uses of memory for Black folks: How we inherit it, how we preserve it and how we pass it down. Yahwon is the curator of her online library, The Womanist Reader, and collective member of the interdisciplinary publishing initiative Press Press. She was Washington Project for the Arts Summer Artist-Organizer-in-Residence (2021) and recently launched Archive Liberia as a site of collective memory for Liberians.
