“We invest in cultural capital.”
Carl Settles, the visionary Founder and Executive Director of E4 Youth, speaks on his focus of helping creative youth of color find success in creative fields.
About the speaker
Carl Settles is the visionary Founder and Executive Director of E4 Youth. As a non-profit organization, E4 Youth partners with local schools to provide innovative curriculum and support, career exposure, job shadowing, and internship opportunities to youth ages 16 – 22. He is the architect of Employability Curriculum, which helps classroom educators build stronger relationships with students of color.
Recently, Carl developed VR Remix Party immersive storytelling curriculum - open source VR/AR tools and workflows that help students tell compelling stories about their lives in minutes. As part of the Intel Foundation's She Will Connect Program, VR Remix Party curriculum is being used by Latinitas and other local non-profits to teach thousands of area youth to code immersive stories about their neighborhoods. His latest venture, Austin Digital Heritage Project, trains and employs college-age youth to collect and curate oral histories into a digital archive that can be accessed via virtual and augmented reality tools.
