Through a fun and interactive zine, Devin Kern guides us through how our unique perspectives allow all of us to embrace ourselves as artists.

Isn’t it interesting that we can all look at the same thing, and see something completely different? Multi-disciplinary artist (and stellar CMNSH volunteer) Devin Kern leads us through a zine that reminds us of the magic and perspectives that only we as individuals can bring to the world. By embracing our own viewpoints and experiences as valid, we can have the courage to create, to confidently call ourselves artists, and maybe even share that outside our phones and desks. The beauty of perspective is that it’s something everyone has, but is truly unique to every person. Perspective is also what makes art subjective, and gives us all the ability to be artists—only you can make the things you’ll make, because only you have your perspective. Our personal perspectives can often be harsh, through self doubt, criticism, or comparison, but capturing your experience is what’s important, even if it’s not perfect. You were brave enough to make something (lots of people don’t even start!) on your own, and that’s worth celebrating. So remember that you’re an artist, dammit, and go out and share your art and perspective with the world.

About the speaker

Devin Kern is a person just like you or me. He works a 9 to 5 job, pays rent, has student debt, and is afraid to answer phone calls from numbers he doesn't know. But those mundane things don't make him any less creative! Devin likes to use his creative energies to try out new mediums of art, play Dungeons and Dragons, and most commonly host fun and engaging events for practically any occasion. He is proud to be a bit of an "every man" because he finds it fun and exciting that even the mundane can be explored and appreciated.

His recent creative endeavors have been designing, writing, and publishing a Choose Your Own Adventure Zine and printing for the Block Party community art show at Random Sample, which he also created original art for. Devin has been a proud supporter of Nashville CreativeMornings for three years and is thrilled to bring his creativity and optimism to the stage for the first time!
