In my talk, I explore the horizon of possibilities, where we envision and experience fictional futures.
I highlight how dystopias—dark and conflict-driven visions—dominate our literature and media, yet motivate us to pursue real-world change. I dive into why utopias, those positive visions of the future, are so underrepresented in literature, even though we desperately need more hopeful perspectives on both the near and distant future. By drawing on examples from dystopias and utopias, I connect them to the concept of the “real utopia” or eutopia. I invite participants to actively create their own vibrant future scenarios using the power of “Positive and Shadow Imagination.” The main takeaways for the audience are understanding the connection and differences between dystopian and utopian futures, learning about their lesser-known relative, Eutopia, and discovering the powerful method of creating future scenarios together.
