The talk on the topic of Matriarchy will give an overview of the status quo of “matriarchy” or “female leadership” in Germany and will try to uncover the reasons for the lack of female leadership positions out of a personal experience in 25 years in the media industry. It will also show some ideas for future improvements and what it needs to promote female power in business.

About the speaker

Katja Hofem has joined the media industry 25 years ago. After 10 years at the private TV company RTL2, where she was “Head of Entertainment” and introduced formats like “Big Brother” or “Popstars” to the German market, and being the “Director of Programming” when she left, she started to work for Discovery Communications, Germany. There she has developed and launched the Free TV channel dmax and as a Country Manager, was responsible for the German business, including all pay tv channels. In 2010 she joined ProSiebenSat1 Media SE with the task to launch a female channel. In her 10 years at ProSiebenSat1, she has led the scheduling department, was responsible for all new channel launches and operated as the COO and part of the Managing Director Team for the German TV activities. In 2018, Katja Hofem was assigned to launch a streaming platform (JV between Discovery Communication and P7S1) as part of the Managing Director Team, responsible for content, marketing and brand. In March 2021, Katja Hofem left Joyn to discover new adventures.
