Hear about the benefits of public art from an acclaimed mural artist.

This artist talk will focus on the capacity for public art to either foster or destabilize a sense of being “at home” for people who live in a neighborhood. The main project discussed in the talk will be the Tiny Town transitional housing unit, and other public art projects will also be drawn from. The discussion will be open-ended and collaborative, with the audience invited to share their own expertise.

About the speaker

I am a multidisciplinary artist, curator, and educator who lives on Lekwungen Territory. I like local biodiversity, social practice, collaboration, myths and archetypes, textile patterns, and bright, emotional colour schemes. I think that place-based art is at its best when it invites us to see our surroundings with more wonder, connection, and sensitivity. Some of my favourite colour palettes come from the sky and some of my favourite sounds and textures come from the water.
