About the speaker
Sam Kapila is a designer and educator in Austin, TX. Sam writes and speaks about Responsive Web Design, design research and strategy, and diversity and inclusion in tech. She is the Director of Academic Operations and Diversity at The Iron Yard, and taught at Texas State University for six years before that. Sam is from the Dutch island of Curaçao and is always talking about food.

Diversity is a tough word, I think we all have a general sense of what that word means, but in terms of how I approach it on a day to day basis is that's an end goal. That's what I want to get to. Inclusion is the way that I get there.
Diversity doesn't just apply to women, it just does not apply to people of color, it also applies to people who have disabilities or abilities or are older.
