CreativeMornings with Michael Hurst
April 11, 8.00am - 9.30am
Q Lounge

They say sex sells. Yet sex can be a pretty divisive subject; we face some pretty big questions when our work connects with sex: where’s the line we mustn’t cross? Is there a line? If there is, how to we recognise it? This month’s theme challenges us to confront those questions head-on.

Michael Hurst, this month’s speaker, is an actor, writer, and director.  He has been a long-standing prominent figure in the New Zealand film & television industry, and in 2005 was designated the New Zealand Order of Merit for his work.

Over the years he has worked on many projects that might be considered sexual in nature. From directing and producing US series Spartacus; to his recent musicals, directed for the Auckland Theatre Company, Cabaret, and last year’s sold-out season of Chicago.

Michael says that while he may not have all the answers to the questions above, he’s certainly spent a lot of time thinking about them.

Join us over coffee to hear his story and share in his insights.

We’re getting pretty excited for this Friday’s CreativeMornings/Auckland with Celery Productions, mostly because we love this video of last years Art in the Dark. Have a look! We’re pretty sure it’ll get you excited too!

Friday March 21, 8:00am - 9.30am
Sir Paul Reeves Building, WG126, AUT

Auckland has done a lot of growing up in the past few years. There’s an energy and excitement to the city now, a sense of community engagement. We’re starting to appreciate our surrounds, to see the magic that can be found beneath the surface.

Spatial Designer Celia Harrison and Event Producer Ella Mizrahi excel at finding that magic, the hidden potential of the places and spaces within our city. Over the past few years they have set about doing their darndest to unlock that potential, to share that magic with everyone.

They’ve been doing this with their award-winning production company, Celery ProductionsSince their conception they have creatively produced, designed and directed award-winning productions and site-specific concepts for The Designers Institute of New Zealand, Waterfront Auckland and the Big Day Out NZ.

More than just an events company, Celery Productions are about ingenious ideas and unique experiences. They specialise in changing urban spaces and building communities through event design. One of their best known festivals, Art in the Dark, saw over 50,000 audience members attend in 2013.

Join us for a peak at the secret Auckland and it’s many wonders.
