Our friends over at Design Assembly are hosting the NZ premiere screening of ‘Design is One' next week at the Academy Cinema.

The film focuses on the the work of Italian born design team duo Lella and Massimo Vignelli, from their first client to their current project (the redesign of the New York Subway system).

Throughout, luminaries from the world of design – from architects Richard Meier and Peter Eisenman to graphic designers Milton Glaser, Michael Bierut, and Jessica Helfand – bring us into the Vignellis’ world, capturing their intelligence and creativity, as well as their humanity, warmth, and humor.

Find out more about the film here and grab your tickets from here.

Thanks to Design Assembly we’ve got a ticket to give away. Head over to our Facebook page to enter.

We’re talking Sex this month, across 70+ chapters around the world. The theme was chosen by our organizer Kyle Baptista and the Toronto team.

As part of this month’s theme, we put together a sultry selection of sexy titles. Get your read on. →

Nat Cheshire

Nat was one of our favourite (and best dressed) speakers from the 2013 CMAkl season as he talked about his mission to shape Auckland into an exciting and engaging space. We can’t wait to hear how he’s progressing.

Nikki Caro

Internationally renowned for her films Whale Rider, North Country and The Vintner’s Luck Nikki Caro is one of the country’s creative heavyweights, which is especially impressive when you consider film is a medium in which she was largely self-taught.

Mike Mizrahi

Creative Director at Inside Out Productions, Mike regularly leads projects with casts of over a thousand, and has worked with orchestras and rock bands, staged events in shipping dry docks, flooded Town Squares and bespoke structures.

Golan Levin

From the worlds of art and engineering, and the fabulous spaces where those disciplines collide Golan’s work is fascinating, a series of revolutionary interactive installations that use robotics, software, and cognitive research to challenge the way people thought about the evolution of ideas and imagery. Check out his TED talk, ‘Art That Looks Back At You' which has gathered 640,000 views, for a preview.

For the full line up check out the Semi-Permanent website here and grab your tickets from here.

Local volunteer Kaan has done us a solid and demonstrated what you can do with it. Or head over to the global blog to discover some inspiring individuals.

It’s never to early for Sex! Actor/Director Michael Hurst tackled the topic of Sex for the April 2014 installment of CreativeMornings in Auckland, posing the questions, where’s the line we mustn’t cross? Is there a line? And if there is, how to we recognise it?

The morning was hosted by the super cool crew at Q Theatre and proudly brought to you by Curative, Little Lot, and AUT with coffee and water generously provided by Coffee Supreme and Antipodes.

And thanks to Aria Taylor from Curative for taking the photos - Check out the full set here: CreativeMornings /AKL with Michael Hurst

This month we’re at one of our regular venue hosts, the lovely Q Theatre. A purpose-designed building, inspirational, flexible venue, a good place to eat, even a place to experiment, Q facilitates artistic experiences that transport people out of the everyday. That’s what makes us love them so.

We’ll be setting up in their Lounge, a modern and relaxed environment perfect during the day for a business lunch, meeting or an informal presentation. The space transforms at night into a great setting for a corporate social or a private party. The Lounge space is available on a nightly basis, free of charge, for new bands, performance poetry, readings, dance performances, anything you can dream up. If you’re interested get in touch with Angela.

Happenings at Q in the near future include In House - Songs and Conversationson April 16th for an intimate evening with some of New Zealand’s most loved songwriters, including Don McGlashan, Shayne Carter, Anika Moa. Or catch the Documentary Edge Festival, New Zealand’s only international documentary film festival, from May 21 through June 2.

Radio DJ and all round inspiring human Richie Hardcore was the speaker at our February 2014 CreativeMornings in Auckland. He spoke about what it really means to be a Rebel in our culture. Watch above or over on CreativeMornings.com.
