May’s theme is Acceptance

May’s theme is Acceptance, chosen by CreativeMornings Lexington and illustrated by Robert Beatty. Acceptance is the act of surrendering to our reality, without judgement or fear. There are many things in our lives that cause us discomfort or pain. We attempt to change or resist them, to no effect. So we wave a big stick, keeping them at bay like a wounded animal.

Acceptance is weaving into your story what once caused you pain — and still might, to this day. You welcome that creature into your home, tend to its wounds, and feed it out of your hand. Acceptance is knowing that this feral animal lives side by side with your tender house cat of a heart, always.

Embracing what cannot change can help you gather the energy to change what must. Accept these truths: you cannot make another person love or see you. You did not finish everything before the sun set on another day — and you didn’t need to. Every moment will pass, the blissful and the excruciating. It’s the hardest lesson, but one we need the most: the grace to let go.

April’s Theme is Movement

Movement is a universal state of being. Even at rest, the matter we’re composed of is in motion — subatomic particles whir about at dizzying speeds, to create the sense of solidity. The things that appear still — the earth beneath us, the trunk of a tree above us, is but a trick of the eye. They move slowly but at a staggering scale.

Our Wellington chapter chose this month’s exploration of Movement, Hannah Webster illustrated the theme, and Mailchimp is presenting the theme.

Speaker announcement

Meet Shaimaa Elbanna, who will make us reflect on #corruption through her talk ´Light will only shine through transparency´.

Our March speaker is an Egyptian political activist and photojournalist who moved to Sweden in 2017 after being sentenced to 10 years in prison by the Egyptian regime for organizing a demonstration without a license in 2014 at the age of 17.

Shaimaa works as a media & communication officer in the human rights area, focusing on Egypt and the Middle East. A foundering member of @thesextalkarabic (on insta) a global organization that helps to raise sexual education and awareness among Arab women, Shaimaa is also locally engaged in Göteborg through initiatives that help adult asylum seekers feel at home in Sweden.

March’s theme is Corruption, chosen by CreativeMornings Monterrey and illustrated by Violeta Hernández.

Corruption rewards social connections and financial advantages over the rules of fair play. We owe the calamities all around us to those who favor gain over the greater good. It takes courage to speak out. To demand transparency and accountability. What will you do to hold power to account?

February speaker announcement

How do you succeed in pursuing your dreams? Marketing and communications all-rounder Cicci Liljedahl has an intriguing recipe: “Live your life with a curious mind and the rest will follow”. With excitement we present a suggestive talk on how to use our innate drift of curiosity to fulfill our aspirations.

Be curious and take good care of opportunities, people and events that cross your path. There are always interesting things to learn more about. Contexts to be inspired by and give inspiration to. Because you learn and develop all the time, don’t you? The only thing you will regret is not doing the things that you really wished for and dreamt of doing.

NB. Save the ticket that you get at the entrance. And be prepared to be a part of a very Creative Morning…

Where: Amoeba, Tredje Långgatan 13
Breakfast: 07:30 - 08:25

Hope we see you on the 24th!

February’s theme is Touch

Chosen by CreativeMornings Lisbon and illustrated by @emmalopesart. Unlike sight or sound, touch cannot be conveyed across distance through screens and speakers. Touch invites us to slow down, pay attention, and come closer. When we open ourselves to the ineffable — what cannot be transmitted through words — touch emerges as a language unto itself. The grit of the soil under our bare feet, the clay slip enrobing a potter’s wheel, the sun-warmed fur of a beloved pet — these sensations can be healing. What will pass through your hands today?

An unclear itchiness to do something else is common amongst professionals. After some time in the corporate world, Romanian and Economics laureate Lavinia Parcalab realized she´s an artist. Office life and high heels were dropped in favor of bare feet and yoga floors.

From park classes in Slottsskogen and living room yoga she founded her boutique yoga studio Unfold Your Mat that gathers a glocal Gothenburg community. Lavinia is passionate about self development, the power of the mind and continuous learning. What started as her hobby, passion and self development tool soon became a sanctuary that she today shares with others.

Where: Amoeba, Tredje Långgatan 13
Breakfast: 07:30 - 08:25

Hope we see you on the 27th!

January’s theme is Sanctuary, chosen by CreativeMornings Sheffield, illustrated by  Lisa Maltby, and presented by Mailchimp. You can stop running now, you are safe here. A sanctuary offers protection to those who are vulnerable: those who are fleeing violence, those who have been cast off and told there is no place for them there, even animals whose habitats have disappeared. Here is a place where you can finally lay your head down and rest. Where is it that you find refuge? What happens to your body when you cross its threshold? And most importantly, how can you hold the door open for others? #CMSanctuary #CreativeMornings

A year ago we started working on the application for bringing CreativeMornings back to Gothenburg so that people could get out of their comfort zone again and mingle after being so isolated during the pandemic. Since then we’ve held five events in our wonderful city.

These events wouldn’t be possible without the CreativeMornings Gothenburg team that do aaall the behind the scenes work. So we would like to dedicate this post to the creative souls that put this together, month after month without getting anything in return except for smiling faces at the events.

And thank you for eating breakfast, drinking coffee, mingling and listening to inspiring talks together with us. Follow the link in the picture above to see all of the photos of the events.

Have a great holiday and see you on the 27th of January!
