#CreativeMornings are back in town!

After a short break, the first event, themedĀ #CMNative, was just fantastic šŸ’„

Thank you,Ā Lucy Larsson, for your inspiring speech about the journey from your motherland, Samoa, to Sweden. Besides the insightful speech, Lucy transported us to her homeland with a traditional Samoan clothes and dance.

Two things occurred for the first time at the event:

āœ… It was the first event hosted byĀ ClĆ”udia Nunes, the latest host of Creative Mornings Gothenburg.

āœ… The new collaborationĀ International House GothenburgĀ received Creative Mornings guests for the first time.

And it’s time to show gratitude to all collaborators now. šŸ™Œ

Thank you, Sit&Draw, for releasing us from the hustle and bustle of work and city life even for a while. Thanks to the guidance ofĀ Kurt Lightner, founder of Sit&Draw, the collective work painted by the participants turned up a unique artwork.

Finally, International House Gothenburg, thank you for hosting our guests and serving delicious coffee and croissants.

See you at the next event, Creative Morning pals. 🫶

Our theme for February is NATIVE. It was chosen by our Honolulu chapter and illustrated by Jack Soren. “Where you are from shapes who you are. Where you call home influences your worldview. Understanding the traditions of your ancestors can help answer the question, "where do I belong?” Your connections to a place and the past should rightfully be a source of great pride. The unique customs, art, and languages of native cultures make the tapestry of human civilization more vibrant. Yet many indigenous communities have faced marginalization, land dispossession, and cultural erasure. How much have we lost and what can be preserved? By respecting and celebrating the traditions and achievements of native people everywhere, we can discover a deeper sense of connection and unity. What does our history have to teach us? What can we learn from each other?“Ā CreativeMorningsĀ You can read about the significance of the imagery in this month’s illustrationĀ here. 🧔

As you may have noticed, we’ve been on a hiatus since the last event in September 2023. But after some reorganisation, we’re now back in business and excited for what 2024 will bring. Thank you so much for your patience! So what happens now? šŸ¤” Don’t worry. We will very soon reveal some more information, so keep your eyes on this channel!

September’s Theme is Simplicity.

In the design traditions of Scandinavian and Japanese minimalism, the paring down of possessions creates a greater sense of tranquility and ease. Simplicity invites us to imagine how rich we might feel when we make do with less.Ā

But put another way, what if we imagined simplicity not in terms of absence but essence? In a world of confounding variables, layers of additional nuance and context, and the mind-boggling complexity of systems upon interdependent systems, simplicity drives us to get to the deep core of the matter. The etymological roots of simplicity refers to a single, indivisible nature. The heart unifies the whole.Ā

Where can you exercise restraint and streamline excess? How will you find clarity amidst chaos?Ā
We (Gothenburg) chose this month’s exploration of Simplicity and Jessica JƤmting illustrated the theme. Ā

Hope you had a great summer - here comes an announcement bonanza!

Our next speaker is Gƶteborg Improv Comedy Club, which is the place where laughter takes center stage! Their improvisers create funny shows right on the spot, using nothing else than ideas from the audience. It’s like watching an hilarious play that’s different every time.

Since September’s theme is Simplicity, we will use the theme to raise awareness for the simple things in everyday Swedish life.

And what better way to do this than to raise our glass to the one and only jantelagen? Jante what? The Law of Jante, as it’s called in English, is unique to the Scandinavian countries but especially Swedes seem to embrace it, daily. Many of us might not even think about it, but we face simple jantelagen situations every day.

Our speakers will shed light on this by improvise on the topics of jantelagen and simplicity.

This event is a collaboration with Gothenburg Culture Festival.

June’s theme is Reverie, chosen by CreativeMornings Omaha, and illustrated by Eduardo Gardea.Ā

When your gaze softens around the edges, where does your mind travel? What thoughts arise unbidden? Reverie beckons us to dream while awake, spinning loose associations that seem to emerge from somewhere not entirely inside or outside of you. Our woolgathering summons past memories and nascent fantasies. We turn them over and over, like smooth stones in our hand, making meaning.Ā

Pay attention to what lulls you into reverie. What conditions disarm your focus? Let your thoughts float and not settle on anything, but drift like a cloud, or a child skipping across a sidewalk on a hot summer day.
