If you like to hang at Thunderbird Coffee, you just may have sat next to our November #CMugshot, Patrick Benfield, as he breezed through a few chapters on a free afternoon. Â Winning the most awesome job title award ( ! ), Patrick is the director of maker education for St. Gabrielâs Catholic School. Â After blissing out on the bacon and avocado in his favorite breakfast taco, he heads to their new makerspace, the d.lab, to assist the future makers of Austin.

Lately, Iâve been inspired by the enthusiasm of the young makers of my school; theyâre so much fun to work with.
I play the Hammond B3 organ during my âoffâ time.  For me, music is an essential part of finding balance.

In Fall 2016, hundreds of CreativeMornings organizers from around the world will descend on Austin for the 2nd-ever CreativeMornings Summit!
Weâll welcome visitors from Atlanta and Auckland, Paris and Perth, Helsinki and Hong Kong, Montreal and Montevideo, Berlin and Boston⌠potentially 175+ different cities! This two-day Summit will be packed with great speakers, workshops, and opportunities to connect with the global CreativeMornings community.
Itâs going to be a ton of fun! Weâll share all that we love about Austin and our creative culture and community. Weâll dance and play, laugh and cry, think and learn, and probably give about a thousand high fives. For a taste of what that looks/feels like, click here to see a recap from the 2014 Summit in Brooklyn, NY.
You can help us by becoming a Summit Volunteer, and be a part of what would be otherwise an organizer-only experience. To attend an information session, click here to fill out the interest form.

Photos from last Fridayâs event with Aralyn Hughes at the Highball are live! See the full set on our Flickr. Thanks again to the spectacular Manny Pandya!
A big thanks to our sponsors, Cuvee Coffee and Vitamin Talent for making #CMshock possible this month.Â
Our October #CMugshot is Sarah Fulgham, new to our CMATX community after hanging out with our friends to the southeast. If you love coffee as much as we do, you are likely to spot Sarah at one of her two favorite haunts,
Figure 8
and
Houndstooth. She’s a taco classicist: eggs, cheese, and protein, please!
Know anyone in the sports and events industry looking to add a little awesome to their team? Sarah is currently job hunting. Who wouldn’t want to add this face to their roster?Â

Austin! I recently moved to Austin from Houston. I wouldn’t necessarily say I was in a slump in Houston… I was comfortable. Being surrounded by fresh air and the innovative and creative culture that Austin cultivates inspires me. It makes me want to DO something - I’m still figuring out what that something is, but I’m pretty sure it will involve my camera and capturing life being lived well.
My alarm clock. EVERY MORNING. Also, sunsets. After briefly being blinded by the setting orb before me (typically while driving), I am struck with awe by the beautiful colors painting the sky. No camera lens can capture it. You just have to sit back, take a deep breath and savor the moment.

Itâs #SOCKtober, and the CreativeMornings community is helping SoulPancake, creators of Kid President, spark 2 million small acts of love through local charities. Love in the form of woolly, cozy foot huggers. This Friday, Austinâs own Mobile Loaves and Fishes will be collecting pairs of menâs and womenâs socks (no childrenâs socks, please). After registering to attend our event at The Highball, make sure to buy a new pair of socks before Friday. Not going to Fridayâs event, but still want to donate? Check out MLFâs donation page to see what items they need, and where to drop them off.
#CMATX and Kid President want you…to bring a sock (or two) to Shock!

Our first Field Trip was a glimpse into the future.
We learned about Googleâs self-driving cars and their âPaint the Townâ art project.Â
You can submit an original work of art based on the theme: âmy community, my neighbors.â Five pieces will be featured on Googleâs prototype vehicles as they cruise the streets of Austin.Â
The five artists selected will also get a ride in a self-driving car - plus a $500 gift card. (Honorable mentions will receive a $300 gift card.) All artists retain all rights to their work. Submission are due by November 1st. You can learn more here.Â
Thank you to Kohana Coffee for supplying their delicious cold brews. And to The Contemporary for hosting with a great set up and beautiful rooftop views.
So what are Field Trips? And how do I find out about the next one?Â
CreativeMornings/Austin Field Trips are bonus events designed to give our community unique, inspiring experiences outside of our monthly talks.
There is no set schedule. So the best way to find out about them is to sign up for our newsletter. Just go to CreativeMornings.com/ATX and click on the little email icon on the left, under âStay in touch!âÂ
